SCHOOLCHILDREN had the chance to meet a champion at Alverstoke Infant School in Gosport.

Paralympian Steve Brown, 34, visited the school to talk to more than 200 children about his experiences as captain of the 2012 Team GB wheelchair rugby team.

The engagement the kids get now will help their confidence not just in sport but in other areas of their life

Steve said it was important to encourage children to get into sport. He said: ‘If I can engage a few of them and get them outside their comfort zones and try something new, then everyone’s a winner. The engagement the kids get now will help their confidence not just in sport but in other areas of their life.’

Headteacher Steph Greenwood said: ‘His message was that you can overcome setbacks and adversity to become successful, and you should always treat others with respect, whatever their situation.’
