PORTSMOUTH’S education boss is urging all parents to fill out school application forms properly to avoid disappointment.

Cllr Rob Wood, cabinet member for education, is making his appeal in good time for primary and secondary school application deadlines on October 31 and January 15 respectively.

The council’s advice is to be on time with your application and to fill in all three preferences.

Parents are encouraged to apply online at portsmouth.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

To apply in the traditional way, parents and carers can get an application pack from their local school or by contacting the council’s admissions team.

Cllr Wood said: ‘We want all families to have the best chance of getting a place they’re happy with.

‘If an application comes in after the closing date, it will only be processed after all the on-time applications. So you may miss out on your preferred schools.’
