Poets take two wheels in summer adventure

POETRY will mix with stunning scenery for a festival this summer.

This July a group of hardy poets and musicians will take to their bicycles for a performance tour of the South Downs.

Their adventure is part of the South Downs Poetry Festival, taking place between July 16 and July 24.

The cyclists will be covering 100 miles from Sussex to Hampshire.

Festival director Tim Dawes, from Havant, said: ‘The bike tour is a very appropriate to the festival’s geographic breadth – covering the whole South Downs area, rather than being based in a single location.

‘It also jointly celebrates the rich poetic heritage of the area and the creation of new work by our wonderful contemporary poets.’

The cyclists will be performing their work at a range of venues, including Midhurst; The White Hart in South Harting; The Town Square in Petersfield; The Harrow Inn in Steep and the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, near Clanfield.
