A PRIMARY school breakfast club will be buying new games thanks to a generous £500 donation from a local supermarket.

Staff and children at Medina Primary in Cosham are thrilled with the gift from Sainsbury’s at Farlington.

The school’s breakfast club, which has been running for five years, sees between 15 and 30 youngsters from reception to year six for an hour every morning before school.

Parents make a 50p contribution for the hour-long session which includes a healthy breakfast and fun board and card games. The school subsidises the club to the tune of more than £2,000 a year.

Headteacher Howard Payne said: ‘We are very proud of our breakfast club, which is hugely beneficial to parents and pupils and is run by an excellent team of staff.

‘It improves attendance, encourages social skills, starts the day in a positive way, and helps out working parents.’

He added: ‘We are so grateful for the donation, it’s a fantastic amount of money which we will use to buy new games for the children to enjoy.’

Sainsbury’s will give Medina the cheque on October 5.
