A Portsmouth independent school for girls has received the highest category following a recent inspection.

Portsmouth High School for girls was ranked ‘excellent’ in all categories of the Independent Schools Inspectorate Report.

The inspection looked at the success of the school, the quality of academic and other achievements, the quality of the pupils’ personal development and the effectiveness of governance, leadership and management.

Portsmouth High School headmistress Jane Prescott said: ‘I think the report accurately reflects our school as a warm inclusive community offering an outstanding education.

‘The girls were praised for their excellent attitude to their lessons and for general behaviour around school along with their “can do” and resilient character traits and true curiosity for learning.

‘The standard of teaching was also highly praised and the staff willingness to give their time endlessly.’
