FOUR out of five workers in Portsmouth fall into the grip of job interview terror, according to new research.

A survey carried out by learndirect has uncovered baffling questions that top the list of local job hunters’ worries.

More than half are stumped when asked to outline their strengths and weaknesses and one in five are left floundering when quizzed on why they want the job.

And almost a third of people surveyed in Portsmouth expect to ruin their chances by turning up late or failing to research potential employers.

The research findings come as stars including Dawn French, Hugh Laurie and Mathew Horne team up to help millions improve their interviewing skills.

The famous faces appear throughout learndirect apps to help boost job hunters’ prospects.

Kirstie Donnelly director of service design and development at learndirect, said: ‘There’s no doubt interviews can be stressful and they require careful planning to really perform at your best.’
