STUDENTS are gearing up to be excellent motorists as they take part in pioneering lessons in driving theory.

Year 10 boys and girls at Mayfield in North End are the first in the south of England to benefit from the lessons.

The school has enrolled 10 students to the six-week course run by the Farlington’s All Drivers Academy (ADA) to teach them the basics before they hit the road.

The scheme forms part of ADA’s Driving Project, which already gives local schoolchildren practical driving lessons on school grounds.

Deputy head Jackie Jones said: ‘It’s about making our students more road conscious.

‘We hope they will become more confident and safer drivers as a result.’
