PLANS to postpone cuts to the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) have been welcomed by a local MP.

The DSA is a non-repayable grant for disabled students. Cuts were planned to take effect by the next academic year.

Mike Hancock, MP for Portsmouth South, said: ‘The announcement that the changes will be postponed is very positive news, and should give universities the time needed to implement and provide greater support for disabled students, as well as give the government time to listen further to the concerns of students, students’ unions and Members of Parliament.’
