VACCINATIONS are taking place at schools in Portsmouth today to protect children against Hepatitis A.

Around 700 children at Isambard Brunel Junior School and Meredith Infant School in North End will all be vaccinated.

One child at Isambard Brunel Juniors was diagnosed with the infection last month.

Public Health England (PHE) took the decision to vaccinate a group of Year 6 children.

But now, all pupils and staff at the two schools will receive vaccinations.

Iain Gilmour, headteacher at Isambard Brunel Juniors, said: ‘In terms of letting the children know, I have done a couple of assemblies with them.

‘But they are little children so they are going to be worried.

‘It’s about looking after the children and getting them through the day as easily as we can.’
