THE winner of the Portsmouth Book Award will be announced next month.

The award gives children in the city the chance to vote for their favourite book.

The winner will be announced on Tuesday, June 11 in the auditorium at Action Stations in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard.

There will be an audience of more than 120 pupils from Year 8 and Year 9 who have all read the four shortlisted books and who will be waiting to know the winner.

Peter Bone, school library service manager, said: ‘Portsmouth Library Service is delighted that the Book Award continues to have such an impact on pupils.

‘The purpose of the Book Award is both to get pupils reading in a more discerning way and to build excitement around reading.’
