More than 300 children at Newbridge Junior School, in Buckland, joined the day-long Skip2Bfit yesterday.

The activity session saw the youngsters hopping and skipping for two minutes, to notch up a high score before then trying to beat it in a second round of skipping.

Year 6 pupil Alannah Andrew, 10, was one of those taking part. She tackled three rounds – beating her score each time.

She said: ‘It was amazing being part of Skip2Bfit. I really had to concentrate.’

Headteacher Anna Webb said the day had been eye-opening. She added: ‘We’ll be introducing weekly skipping sessions. It’s an amazing way to improve their focus and they get so much out of it.’

The event was led by boxer John McCormack, founder of Skip2Bfit.
