PORTSMOUTH High Junior schoolgirls have gone to musical lengths to back Military Wives reaching number one in the UK charts tomorrow.

The youngsters recorded their own version of the tune which beat hundreds of entries for a competition set by Chris Evans – and it was aired on Radio 2 earlier this week.

Deputy head girl Imogen Roberts, 10, said: ‘It’s a great opportunity to do something and know that it’s for people who are fighting for our country.

‘It would be amazing if Military Wives beat the X Factor song to number one on Christmas Day – it’s a song that deserves recognition and profile and it’s sung from the military wives’ hearts!’

Emma Vernon, 10, added: ‘I felt very moved when we were singing because it’s about all the people who leave their families to go and fight for their country.’
