Pupils to sing their hearts out at concert

MORE than 1,200 children from 38 schools across the city will take part in this year’s annual carol concert.

It will take place in Guildhall Square at 6.30pm on Monday.

The singers will be supported with music provided by the Salvation Army Portsmouth Citadel Band, with the Portsmouth Music Service conducting.

The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Frank Jonas will be switching on the Christmas tree lights.

Nine-year-old Aarushi Shah, from Portsmouth High School, has been chosen as the winner of a competition to design the front cover of the programme for the Christmas carol concert event.

Cllr Jonas said: ‘The schools Christmas carol concert is one of the highlights of the year for Portsmouth. It’s wonderful to see everyone join together and get into the spirit of Christmas by coming along to see the children sing.

‘We only get the opportunity to celebrate in such grand style once a year, so I invite everyone to come along and join in the festive fun.’
