TWELVE girl guides got some hands on experience of the traditionally male-dominated construction industry at a college.

The 10 to 13 year olds from Purbrook Guides used saws and screw drivers to make bird boxes at Highbury College’s Northarbour centre.

They cut, screwed and glued the boxes together while learning which tools are most effective for different jobs.

Liz Taylor, event organiser, said: ‘It’s a wonderful opportunity for the girls to develop new skills that they can take with them through life’s journey.’
