PUPILS and teachers from 16 schools across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight, are working hard to design and build model powerboats.

The youngsters will race the boats at QinetiQ’s ocean basin facility at Haslar, Gosport on Friday, June 7.

The QinetiQ Schools Powerboat Challenge tasks teams of five pupils, aged between 12 and 15, to design, build and then race their own model powerboats.

It provides pupils with an exciting, practical experience and an understanding of the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) within the marine industry.

The Powerboat Challenge takes place from 10am until 4pm. The final race and prize giving will take place from 3pm.
