FORMER pupils are having a 1980s-themed reunion to mark 25 years since they left school – and will be raising money in memory of their late friend.

Around 100 people from the class of 1987 are going to the event at Horndean Technology College, which used to be called Barton Cross Senior School.

Each of them will release a balloon in memory of their late friend Suzette Smith who died of cancer two years ago aged 38.

Organiser Steve Mayne said: ‘The last reunion we held Suzette was still here so this time we’re going to remember her by raising money for McMillan Cancer Support which did so much for her in her final days.

‘We’ve raised around £100 so far. It’s going to be a great night.’

The balloon release will be followed by video messages from pupils and former teachers who can’t make the event which is on May 18 at 7.30pm.

Only pupils who left in 1987 are invited to the event.
