STUDENTS from a special school in Portsmouth walked away with an award for best costume at Rock Challenge this week.

Redwood Park School in Cosham, which aims to educate children with a variety of learning difficulties, won the award for their performance of a Greek myth called Persephone.

Meanwhile, King Richard School in Paulsgrove finished in second place.

The performance called A Love Story told the tale of an angel and a demon and the conflict that arises from their forbidden love.

Students at the school also won additional awards for choreography and for stage crew.

Stuart McGregor, UK manager of Rock Challenge, said it was another successful night.

‘Both schools were incredible and we were so pleased at the quality of their performances,’ he said.

‘King Richard took the Rock Challenge stage to a completely original place using a wonderfully original set to really enhance their performance.

‘It was a wonderful piece and the preparation they had put in was very noticeable.’
