A SCHOOL will be taking its lessons outside as a new outdoor classroom has been built.

The Rt Rev Christopher Foster, Bishop of Portsmouth, opened the classroom at a service attended by the whole of Wickham Church of England Primary School.

The bespoke gazebo barn has been designed by the local craftsmen of Outdoor Places, to meet the Wickham children’s needs.

The wooden classroom was built using traditional methods.

Headteacher Maria Ackland said: ‘We have wonderful grounds here at Wickham which already include a large sports field, a 2.5-acre conservation area, an outdoor swimming pool and the recently-built all-weather sports pitch.

‘Our new outdoor classroom will enhance our children’s learning and enjoyment through first-hand experiences, making their learning exciting and memorable.’

The classroom has been partially sponsored by Peptide Protein Research, a Bishop’s Waltham company, to raise the profile of science in primary schools.
