STAFF, pupils and parents from Mayville High School will be braving the cold waters of the Solent, getting on their bikes and hitting the road to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The group from Mayville will be taking part in the Portsmouth City Council-sponsored sprint triathlon on Sunday.

In total they have eight teachers, eight pupils and one parent taking part.

There will be five teams to complete the three stages.

Jacqueline Copestake, a spokeswoman for the school, said: ‘We have not suddenly gone mad, but we have found it difficult to come to terms with people we care about who are coping with cancer and decided to do something to support the campaign to fight back and beat cancer one day.

‘We hope to make a lovely day out and we would appreciate not only your donations but also your support and encouragement on the day.

‘This is a cause close to our hearts at the moment.’
