EIGHT hundred scouts from Portsmouth and Hampshire enjoyed an action-packed weekend of outdoor sports including skating, archery and climbing.

The 10 to 14-year-olds who took part in last month’s Hampshire Scout Winter Camp at Lyon Copse in Shedfield – which turned out to be the largest organised to date – have returned home fired up for more action.

Jack Walters, 13, from 68th Portsmouth Scouts, said: ‘The camp was great with brilliant activities.

‘The best part was the laser mission.

‘I would go twice a year if I could!’

Aaron Ross, 12, from 23rd Portsmouth Scouts, added: ‘It was a fun weekend.

‘I liked the inflatable obstacle course, air rifle shooting and bungee run.

‘I can’t wait for next year.’

Portsmouth Scouts Commissioner Ron Jacobs hopes more youngsters will sign up to the scouting movement and get involved in the fun activities.

He said: ‘As well as braving two nights in their tents and overcoming their fears, the boys and girls would have formed new friendships from around the county.’
