YOUNG dancers showed their serious sides at the third night of this year’s Rock Challenge.
Meaningful themes from the pressures of modern life to the hazards of a fast-paced world captivated the audience at Portsmouth Guildhall.
Mayfield School, in North End, saw off competition from 12 other schools to win the heat.
The seats were packed for the biggest evening Rock Challenge had ever seen, with nearly 2,000 people in attendance.
Organiser Stuart McGregor said: ‘For local students it was a fantastic evening.
‘The atmosphere in the Guildhall was amazing.
‘It has been a very strong week for local schools.’
Despite it being their first time in the challenge, Bay House School in Gosport beat several previous champions to finish fourth.
King Richard School in Paulsgrove and the City of Portsmouth Girls’ School in Southsea both finished in the top five.
