KIND-hearted schoolchildren packed hundreds of goodies into 115 boxes to give deprived children a happy Christmas.

The Year Seven pupils at Mayfield School in North End donated toys, games, stationery and toiletries for the Operation Christmas Child scheme run by the charity Samaritan’s Purse.

It provides youngsters across the world with what could be their only gift this year.

Taking the initiative, the 11 and 12-year-olds organised a massive round-up of gifts for the worthy cause in two weeks. And they did themselves proud by doubling the school’s average box collection.

Headteacher David Jeapes said: ‘I was very impressed with the generosity of our students and parents and would particularly praise the work of our Year Seven team who have co-ordinated this activity.’
