Students celebrate volunteers

STUDENTS at Havant College are gearing up to celebrate the work of volunteers.

The college will be supporting National Student Volunteering week, which starts next Monday.

During the week college staff will be acknowledging their own students’ triumphs in volunteering and encouraging young people to help out in their local community.

Among the jobs taken on by Havant College students are working for a Romanian orphanage, volunteering for a Beavers colony and working in one of The Rowans Hospice’s charity shops.

Kyle Smyth, from Portsmouth, volunteers at a charity shop as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award.

He said: ‘I really enjoy it.

‘I like talking to the customers and answering the phones. It is quite busy with taking in and sorting through the new donations.’
