SCORES of people packed a church to see more than 40 decorated Christmas trees.

The event was held last weekend at St Peter and St Paul Church in Osborn Road, Fareham.

The church opened its doors for four days so that people could admire 44 trees decorated by groups from the church.

All the trees were real and had been donated by local businesses.

Anne Butcher, one of the organisers, said: ‘I think we can count our festival as a great success.

‘It brought a lot of people in to our lovely old church, many of whom had never been inside the building before.

‘The variety of Christmas tree decoration was amazing.

‘We are so grateful for the support of so many local businesses.

‘We have already been approached by others who want to join in next year. But above all it was fun.’

The festival finished with a traditional carol service on Sunday evening, where the trees were lit and the church was illuminated with candles.

About 100 people joined in the service. ‘It was magical,’ said Mrs Butcher.
