A FUNDRAISING scheme has been launched to try to raise £20,000 for a school’s new fitness trail.

The launch of the scheme will take place at Wickham Primary School’s summer fair on Saturday, July 6.

It follows a successful bid by the Friends of Wickham Primary School for up to £20,000 from The Southern Co-operative’s Community Support Card scheme for 2013.

Activities at the summer fair, which is being held at the school in Buddens Road from midday to 3pm, include a children’s farm, falconry, stalls and games, bouncy castle, barbecue, beer and Pimms, and refreshments.

The Co-op will be offering tastings from its Local Flavours range and giving out free Community Support cards for visitors to enable them to back the school’s fundraising goal.

Headteacher Maria Ackland said: ‘Our school lies at the heart of the village, we enjoy close links with the community and our children are wonderful ambassadors for the village. Through this fundraising project our PTA will be able to provide a magnificent fitness trail to promote health and wellbeing which generations of young people in Wickham will enjoy.

‘We are proud to work with The Southern Co-operative for the benefit of our local community.’

Tony Scott, retail business manager for the Co-op store in Wickham said: ‘We’re asking customers to request a free Community Support Card at our store or Saturday’s fair and have this swiped each time they shop.

‘It doesn’t cost our customers a penny but the more the card is swiped, the quicker TSC donates the funds.

‘The Wickham community is always so supportive of our fundraising for the village and we can’t do this without them.’
