PARENTS are being encouraged to swap their cars for a walk in the fresh air as part of Walk to School Week.

More than 90,000 schoolchildren in the Hampshire area have already signed up to take part in the event, including 8,400 from Fareham, 6,000 from Gosport and 7,700 from Havant.

The initiative, which runs next week, is aimed at teaching youngsters road safety awareness. It is run by the Living Streets charity and all children who take part receive a log book, certificate and
stickers.

Hampshire County Council is now encouraging more people to get involved.

Living Streets says starting the day in an active way improves concentration in the classroom.
