IT MAY not be the full 557ft but this cardboard tube and drinking straw model of the Spinnaker Tower is looming over everyone at a nursery in Southsea.
Three and four-year-olds at Brambles Nursery had to stand on chairs to put the finishing touches to their version of Portsmouth’s iconic landmark which took a week to create.
Hilary Beagley, a nursery teacher who came up with the idea to make the topic of building fun, said: ‘I thought it would be nice to make something a bit different.
‘We worked painstakingly from a picture of the Spinnaker Tower, observing how the base was constructed and then joined up at the top. The result is simply fantastic.
‘The children can be proud of themselves.
‘Their model is over 6ft, which is a way off the original, but parents are now asking if we have plans to build a working lift to reach the top!’
