THOUSANDS of university students were left fuming after a computer error left them waiting days for their exam results.
Graduates of Solent University in Southampton faced an agonising wait to see how they had fared in their exams as they were unable to access results online.
Student Deborah Screen wrote to The News. She said: ‘It is not good enough, they should have prepared for this better so as to stop this kind of thing from happening.
‘It is disgusting that we are all having to wait this long when we got told a time and a date that we could receive them. Myself and hundreds of other students have been left feeling very anxious and distressed over this situation.’
She added: ‘We received an email stating a day and a time our results would be available on the university’s portal.
‘I believe Solent had problems with high traffic at the beginning of the week and yesterday most, if not all of the students could not access the portal.
‘Solent said that due to an incredibly high demand for student results, the portal has been adversely impacted.
‘I fail to understand why they were not expecting all students to be trying to access their results as soon as they were available.’
Between 3pm and 7pm yesterday, final year students were able to collect their results from the university’s East Park Terrace campus.
A university spokeswoman said staff were trying to resolve the problem as quickly as possible and had taken the system down to fix it.
She added: ‘We understand this is an anxious time for our students and apologise for the inconvenience caused.’
