STUDENTS in Portsmouth have watched their teachers eat maggots to raise money for Comic Relief.

Staff at Miltoncross Academy took part in the challenge - inspired by bushtucker trials from the popular ITV show ‘I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! - which involved them eating worms, maggots and other creepy crawlies.

Maths teacher Sam Hillman was among those devouring the insects.

He said: ‘I didn’t know what to expect before the challenge, but I was nervous.

‘I watch the TV show and think “I could do that”, but after putting myself forward I wasn’t so sure.’

Pupils also raised money within their school houses to put one of their senior teachers in the stocks and throw sponges thrown at them.
