THERE has been much ‘egg-citement’ at a primary school in Whiteley as pupils keep watch for some blue tit eggs to hatch.

The blue tits have made their nests in the schools bird boxes, which are monitored by video cameras.

These nest-cams transmit a live stream to the Whiteley Primary School’s website and to a monitor in reception.

Headteacher Lesley Pennington said: ‘At lunchtime you will always see a crowd of children gathered round watching, trying to count the amount of eggs and trying to see if there are any new beaks appearing. It’s exciting for the children.’

The school installed the bird boxes a few years ago and this is the third time the blue tits have nested there.
