SCHOOL children spent the day in hats to raise money for Brain Tumour Research on Wear A Hat Day.

But the students at Alverstoke Infant School, in Gosport, were also remembering a pupil who died from a brain tumour last year.

The pupils gathered after school to unveil a tree and bench that were installed to remember five-year-old Joe Gower.

His mum Elise, dad Al and twin brother Jay helped mark the special event.

Elise said: ‘It was lovely that the school decided to plant a tree and install a bench.

‘They have given the family tremendous support as have the other parents.’

The school raised nearly £1,000 for charity.
