A WEST End director has added extra spark to Portsmouth High School’s production of a musical based on the works of Dr Seuss which promises to wow audiences at the New Theatre Royal tonight and tomorrow.

Tom Kelly, assistant musical director of Into The Woods, spent an afternoon at the girls’ school in Southsea giving some friendly tips ahead of their production of Seussical!, which is about the adventures of an elephant who discovers the smallest planet in the universe.

Drama teacher Lauren Farnhill, who is directing the musical, said: ‘We promise fans young and old two hours of memorable and spectacular music and theatre, presented by a wealth of their favourite characters including the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant and Gertrude McFuzz.

‘We felt privileged that Tom Kelly was able to give us direction during one of our last rehearsals. As well as practical pointers that no doubt improved the performance, it also gave the girls a real boost.’

The performance at the New Theatre Royal on April 6 and 7 starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets can be purchased from the box office on (023) 9264 0999 or at newtheatreroyal.com.
