A WAR expert is giving a free public lecture about Winston Churchill ‘as a war leader’ at a school in Southsea.

Prof Gary Sheffield, chair of war studies at the University of Birmingham, will give his talk at St John’s College Politics Society at 7.30pm on March 7.

He has written widely on the British army in World War One – demonstrating the way in which it perfected its fighting techniques on the Western Front to achieve a remarkable series of victories over German forces in 1918.

The event starts at 7pm with refreshments in the school’s auditorium.
