COLLEGE students are playing a major role in a huge competition being held this week.

The talented actors representing Highbury College’s Theatre Company are performing their own version of Robin Hood - which includes rap songs – to an audience at WorldSkills 2011 at the ExCel centre in London.

More than 150,000 visitors and 1,000 competitors from 50 nations are expected to attend to see students showcase their talents across a range of vocational skills including IT, tiling and the arts.

Jackie Page, director of the Highbury’s skilled and talented academy, said: ‘As a college, we are very proud of our student achievements. This event will allow them to demonstrate their outstanding skills and pass their skills onto others.’

One competitor is Chichester College’s Chris Wallis, 21, who will compete to be the ‘best of the best’ at cabinet making in a four-day challenge.
