A SCHOOL where children go beyond the call of duty to do charitable work has won a top award.

St Swithun’s Catholic Primary, in Southsea, is one of 12 schools to be awarded the first annual Church School Award in recognition of its enthusiastic fundraising and strong links with the community.

More than 350 schools applied for the accolade, which will be officially presented at a gala in London by schools minister Nick Gibb.

Liz Bradbury, headteacher said: ‘We are thrilled with the award which is a true reflection on the generosity of our children who are constantly coming up with ideas to fundraise for worthy charities.

‘They also take part in many civic and local outreach activities and are planning our activities for Fairtrade fortnight later this month.’
