YOUNG people training to become the next generation of builders and carpenters are finalists in a national construction competition.

Trainees from Chichester College are going to Birmingham’s NEC next month.

The shortlisted candidates are David Bott, 18, from Bosham, Jack Adams, 19, from Hayling Island, Jack Bateman, 18, from Yapton near Bognor, and 19-year-old Peter Bailey, from Chichester.

All are experts in cabinet making.

They will join more 60 trainees to battle it out in their chosen trade with skills such as painting and decorating, floor-tiling and bricklaying all being put to the test.

The SkillBuild contest has taken place for 40 years and is organised by the Construction Industry Training Board, Sector Skills Council and Industry Training Board for the construction industry.
