EMERGENCY services will create a mock incident in a bid to improve how they handle danger.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has teamed up with British Transport Police and other specialist teams to set up a scenario where two vehicles and a motorcyclist collide on a level crossing before a train approaches.

More than 50 actors will play casualties with help from make-up artists from South Downs College, Waterlooville, while a special effects team will create smoke and fire. The tracks will include a third electrified rail and smoke will billow out heavily from one of the train carriages.

B&Q Portsmouth in Fratton and EMR Metals in Copnor have donated building materials to make the crash site. Scaffolding and viewing platforms have been provided by Beaver Tool Hire.

Firefighters from Southsea, Fareham, Emsworth, Portchester and Gosport will attend the event, which will be held at Fratton Train Care Depot, in Goldsmith Avenue, Southsea, on October 14 between 11am and 12pm.
