EMSWORTH has announced a week-long list of activities to celebrate all things British as part of St George’s Day.
There will be a different event every day between Friday, April 20 to Sunday, April 29, including a parade from 47 Regiment Royal Artillery, on the Tuesday and dragon boat racing on Sunday, April 29.
The nominated charity this year is the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund, and it is hoped £5,000 can be raised, as was last year.
Springﬁeld Care Homes and Havant Borough Council have joined the Emsworth Business Association, Emsworth Community Association and Emsworth Residents Association in sponsoring and supporting various aspects of St George’s Week.
Shops will be encouraged to take part in a best-dressed window competition, with the judging taking place on Friday, April 20. On Saturday, April 21, there is a Jazz Night with George’s Regis Jazz Band at 7.30pm at Emsworth Community Centre.
On the Monday, the military parade will take place through the town at 10.30am. At 11.30am there will be refreshments and music from the Phoenix Singers at Emsworth Community Centre. At 7pm there is a curry and music night at the Spice Village restaurant in St Peter’s Square.
On the Wednesday at 3pm The Deck Cafe, at Emsworth Yacht Harbour will hold English afternoon tea, while at 7.30pm a quiz night will take place at the Brookfield Hotel on Havant Road with a light supper served. Also at 7.30pm a sea shanties and simple supper event is taking place at Emsworth Sailing Club.
On the Thursday at 3pm, the Elgar Society will give a presentation on ‘Elgar, his life and work’ at the Brookfield Hotel. On Friday, April 27, The Deck Café will have an evening and supper with Brian from The Archers at 7pm.
On Saturday, April 28 at 7.30pm the Emsworth Proms will take place at St James Church choir, and on Sunday, April 29, the Emsworth Arts Trail comes to town, and the dragon boat racing takes place on the Mill Pond.
