RESIDENTS are being encouraged to abandon their cars and take part in an off-road hike for charity.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) South Downs Way Challenge takes place on February 26.

The event is a walk or run over three distances: a family-friendly 8.5 miles, 15 miles or the ultimate 20 mile challenge.

Each route begins at Queen Elizabeth Country Park.

Registration opens at 6.30am, runners start at 7.30am and hikers from 8am.

Anyone who wants to take part is asked to raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship.

There is also an entry fee of £10 for adults and £5 for children aged between 12 and 16.

To register for the challenge, call 0808 100 2109 or visit bhf.org.uk/sdwchallenge.
