Mountain of TVs gets recycled
MORE than 200 old televisions were collected as part of a scheme to recycle people’s unwanted electrical items.
Scores of people visited West Sussex County Council’s waste service site in Selsey to drop off items, including more than 50 kettles, as well as irons, microwaves, and a mini jukebox.
The scheme is part of a twice monthly service that is being piloted by the council.
All the items will be sent to a specialist facility, to be dismantled and separated into component materials, such as glass, plastic and metals for recycling and reprocessing.
In total, the event collected 7.4 tonnes – two-and-a-half-times greater than the 2.94 tonnes collected during the previous appeal held in November.
Council deputy leader Lionel Barnard said: ‘I’m pleased at how well this collection event has progressed so far.’
