FOUR hundred people celebrated the 41st Bangladesh Independence Day with entertainment and games in Southsea.

Members of the community were given awards by deputy lord mayor Cllr Frank Jonas and Mike Hancock MP in St Peter’s Hall.

Abul Hoque, President of the Sylhet District Association of Portsmouth, said: ‘The day is very emotional and memorable for the Bengali nation and it is the biggest day in Bangladesh history.’
