MORE than 1,000 people packed into Portsmouth Guildhall to celebrate the Family Church’s 15th anniversary.

It was marked with a three-hour spectacular production that reflected on the achievements of the church in the community.

The church was founded in 1997 and has grown since its early days at Buckland Community Centre in Malins Road, Buckland.

Messages from across the globe were heard at the event, including a video from Brian and Bobby Houston of Hillsong Church in Australia.

Guests included the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Cllr Frank Jonas and former Pompey defender Linvoy Primus.

Senior pastor and church founder Andy Elmes said: ‘The event was not just one of celebration but one of thanksgiving for the last 15 years.

‘Even as the church looks back and gives thanks, it’s also looking ahead and becoming an even bigger voice in the community.

‘The focus has been heavily on “Go”, a theme which sees the congregations not focusing on themselves but on their community.’

The church last week moved into its new Empower Centre headquarters in Kingston Road, Buckland.
