Have your say

I AM glad to report that we had more than 60 entries for the Marathon in Instalments, which is still in progress in Jubilee Park, Waterlooville, and will finally conclude on Saturday.

So far some 28 entrants have completed the full 26.2 miles by accumulating their 90 laps.

Of particular note is the achievement of Dinky Legg, aged 77, who is now partially sighted, and not as mobile as she once was.

Dinky is a past chairperson for Age Concern, Cowplain.

She was also well-known as a Scout leader and ultimately Scout commissioner in the Cowplain area.

Dinky has shown amazing determination to overcome her physical problems and achieved her laps by walking with Sylvia Harris, aged 67. who accompanied her throughout her endeavour, setting an outstanding example to the other younger entrants, and even winning accolades from passersby in the park who have witnessed her participation.

It is anticipated that almost all the runners will finish the course and attend the certificate and prizegiving on Saturday, September 7 at the Borrow Centre in Cowplain.

We have largely been blessed with excellent weather.

And it seems that everyone has enjoyed the experience of getting involved.

Several have already asked if we will stage the event next year again

Some are arranging a regular walk in the park when the marathon is over.

It is too early to say how much sponsorship has been raised at this stage.

But indications are that this will be several thousand pounds – and that it has been a very worthwhile venture for Age Concern, Cowplain.
