Extended opening times at Portsmouth play areas

CHILDREN have more time to play as city adventure playgrounds have extended their opening hours.

Playgrounds in Portsea, Landport and Somers Town will be open between Monday and Saturday every week – giving children more time to play during term-time and the school holidays.

The three playgrounds are open from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm on Saturdays, and services in Somers Town and Portsea will stay open until 7pm during the week.

If successful, extended opening hours may be introduced at Stamshaw, Paulsgrove and Buckland playgrounds.

Cllr Steven Wylie, Portsmouth City Council’s executive member for housing, said: ‘Giving children more time to use the playgrounds is great news for local kids, particularly with spring fast approaching.

‘Many of the families who use the playgrounds live in council properties and have limited access to outside play space, so this is really good news for our tenants.’
