A COLOURFUL fancy dress parade stole the show at a mini-version of Leigh Park Festival.
Families wore imaginative costumes for a procession in Park Parade.
Tina James, 38, and her children Lauren-Jay, 14, Faith, seven, Reese, 18 months, and nine-week-old Maisie had a great time in their Shrek-inspired outfits.
Tina said: ‘We thought we’d come down and be a bit different.
‘We have had a great time. We come every year.’
The festival is normally held on Stockheath Common in May but this year’s had to be cancelled because of poor weather.
A smaller version was then arranged to be held at Leigh Park’s shopping centre this month as organisers couldn’t afford to hold it at the bigger venue again.
Nonetheless, the festival was a success and children enjoyed a magic show put on by Chubby the clown.
Youngsters also had some fun singing tunes and going on a fairground ride.
Lib Dem councillor Faith Ponsonby, who helped to organise the event, said: ‘We wanted to give something back to the community and give them an opportunity to have some fun.’
