The 34-year-old’s wife Julieanne said their family have been left devastated.

Chief Constable Andy Marsh said he was ‘deeply saddened’ by the ‘tragic death’.

In a statement released through the force, Julieanne said: ‘We are devastated at the death of Ray.

‘This is a difficult time for the family and we would like some privacy as we come to terms with our loss.’

Hampshire police confirmed his death on July 5 is not being treated as suspicious.

John Apter, chairman of Hampshire Police Federation, which represents rank-and-file officers, said Ray was well-known and well-liked.

He added: ‘This is a very painful time for Ray’s family and his close friends and his colleagues.

‘I’ve said many times before that policing is a close family – at times like these it’s important that we’re there for each other.

‘I’m doing all I can with the force to support Ray’s family at this very difficult and sad time.’

PC Hutchison served 11 years at the force.

Chief Constable Andy Marsh said: ‘I am deeply saddened by Ray’s tragic death.

‘The force is a family, and the loss of one our own deeply affects us all.

‘I know that colleagues from across the two counties will join me in extending our deepest sympathies to Ray’s family, friends and shift members.’

‘We are doing all we can to support his family at this time.’

An inquest into the death was opened and adjourned on Wednesday.
