IN MEMORY of his son, Alan Powell has organised a family get-together like no other.
Along with eight other family members Alan will be running the British 10km London Run to raise money for Wessex Heartbeat.
The Powell family want to raise £1,000 for the charity that helped Alan’s son Marc after he was diagnosed with heart disease.
And now they are gearing up for the run tomorrow.
Alan, from Ashlyn Close, Fareham, said: ‘We are all looking forward to the run and I have been training quite a fair bit for it.
‘We decided as a family it would be a good way to raise money for the Wessex Heartbeat.
‘They are a great charity and they helped Marc a lot through his treatment.’
Along with his wife Wendy, nephew Phillip and his wife Michelle and two daughters Emma and Ali, Dawn his niece, Robert his nephew and Robert’s wife Lisa, Alan will be completing the run.
Other family members will also be in London to show their support and cheer them on. They were hoping to raise £1,000 before the run.
Marc, who was 34 years old when he died last year, spent a lot of time in Southampton General Hospital where the charity is based. He underwent a 17-hour operation there in a bid to save his life.
