A FAMILY walked more than 100 miles to raise money for charity.

Ian and Bill McArdle hiked the Southern Pennine Way from Edale to Dufton 23 years ago when Ian was 16.

This year was Ian’s 40th and daughter Anna’s 16th birthday so they decided that this year would be a good year to finally complete the Pennine Way, whilst raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Anna, from Titchfield, said: ‘We hiked from Dufton to Kirk Yetholm over a week with days averaging about 15 miles.

‘Overall we hiked over 100 miles. This opportunity also coincided with my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, so it helped me to complete the physical portion of the award.

‘We managed to raise over £500 for the charity, which is a fantastic feeling.’
