A FAREHAM bus driver is competing to win the title of Bus Driver of the Year.

Dave York, from First’s Hoeford depot in Fareham, will be going to Blackpool this weekend to compete in the annual contest.

Up against him will be 120 other First Bus drivers from around the UK, including Andy Attwood from the Southampton depot.

They are both representing Hampshire at the finals after winning the local heats.

During the course of the weekend, all the drivers will be tested on different aspects of the profession, including customer care, practical driving skills and a 30-question theory test.

Chrissie Bainbridge, general manager for First Hampshire, said: ‘A series of internal heats are held before we decide who we send to the Bus Driver of the Year awards in Blackpool.

‘We send our best wishes to Dave and Andy, who are both excellent drivers.

‘It would be a real achievement for one of them to return to the south coast with this coveted title.’
