A COMMUNITY group is urging people to become charity trustees after figures from the Charity Commission found almost half of charities in England and Wales have at least one vacancy on their board.

Community Action Fareham is making the plea to tie in with national Trustees’ Week, which runs from November 2.

Jennie Romicheva, from the group that works with community groups and charities in Fareham, said there are more than 150 registered charities in Fareham and another 400 smaller voluntary groups.

She said: ‘These charities are all different, but one thing they have in common is their reliance on trustees.’

Ms Romicheva invited people considering taking up the role of a trustee to find out more by emailing enquiries@farehamvolunteers.org.uk

She also invited trustees and committee members to The Trustee Tea at 163 West Street, Fareham on November 5, from 3pm for tea and cake, support and information. A further training event will be held on December 2 at 6pm.
